IPCR seeks peaceful coexistence between Farmers-Herders

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution IPCR, has emphasised the need for farmers and herders to live together and manage their conflict.

The Director General of the institute, Dr Joseph Ochogwu stated this in Abuja at the Second National Conference on the Management of Farmer-Herder Relations in Nigeria.

Represented by the Director of Conflict Prevention and Resolution Dr Emmanuel Mamman, the Director General explained that farmers and herders have major responsibility in the nation’s economic development, hence the need for them to continue to live together and manage the conflict between them.

The Executive Director NEEM Foundation, a crisis response organisation Dr Fatima Akilu explained that there have been significant increase in the cordiality of relationship between farmers and herders as a result of engagements by the organisation.

There were goodwill messages from the Nigerian Police, the Nigeria Customs Service, Cattles’s breeders Association as well as All farmers Association of Nigeria.

The summit was organized by the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, NEEM Foundation, Karuna Center for Peacebuilding, and the Office of Strategic Preparedness and Resilience.
