In an interview with farmers at Gamadan Ƙura , Ruwan Kanya in Rano and Dawanau at Dawakin Tofa, Maize farmers decries over Maize Mosaic Virus known as (MMV), which raverged the Farms of people there.
According to the farmers the virus which is still undetected, put them at the risk of longer -term stalemate with negative consequences at high cost with debt burden.
“We want a sophisticated new insecticide to fight this bottleneck that’s crippling our hard earned labour virtually all of our Maize have been raverged by this virus” said octogenarian Baba Amadu of Ruwan Kanya in Rano local government area.
“The amount of loss is so sad and devestating ,therefore there is need for intervention from ADP’s , government and all other stakeholders to curtail this which is critical to poverty reduction in order to be elusive at era of high cost economy” added the veteran farmer.
Despite the most advanced mechanized farming tools and techniques the develop countries have , Musa Babalo and his brother Kabiru Babalo of Gamadan in Kura Local government ,that are Maize and Rice Farmers count their looses due to the inadequate modern mechanization and other constraints which according to them caused the Virus in their Maize Farm.
Musa and his brother call on the bilateral relationship with all the stakeholders specifically state government and ADP’s , as they are sure it is remedy for the virus endemic and quality feterlizer at low cost.
In Tete a Tete with Maize Farmers at Dawanau town in Dawakin Tofa local government also at Kano Farmers Voice NG, heard different version of devastating impact the Maize Mosaic Virus did to them without containing it as it is new norm this dry season according to thier inputs.
