The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has issued a warning to Nigerian farmers, advising them against paying money to certain individuals who claim to facilitate the regularization of their membership within the association.
In a press statement delivered in Abuja, Architect Kabir Ibrahim, the national president of AFAN, expressed concern over the detrimental impact of such actions on Nigerian farmers.
Given the numerous challenges they already face, he condemned the act of demanding payment for membership during these difficult times.
According to Ibrahim, these individuals have been circulating a link to farmers, instructing them to make payments in order to revalidate their membership with the national body. He emphasized that this request is fraudulent and does not originate from AFAN.
He said these individuals have sent a link to farmers asking them to pay money in order to revalidate their membership of the national body, noting that the falsified request did not emanate from them.
“Our attention has been drawn to a link requesting every farmer to regularize their membership of AFAN by paying N500 (Five Hundred Naira).
“We are by this [statement] discountenancing this message as false and defamatory to the AFAN leadership,” the statement reads in part.
The national president also called on farmers across the country to ignore the messages, which “like many others, purporting to avail loans to farmers.”
