Bandits shot and injured two and kidnapped six herders at a Fulani settlement at Laying-Jirgi near Jere town in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State.

A resident of Here, Labaran Saidu, while speaking with our reporter through telephone on Monday, said the incident happened last Saturday, around 11:23 pm when bandits invaded a herders’ camp in the area.

Saidu said the herders wielding sophisticated weapons on motorcycles struck and whisked the victims away.

“Some of the bandits came on motorcycles while other gangs came on foot through the bush path and opened fire before they whisked away the victims,” he said.

He said a contact had been established with the kidnappers, in which he claimed that the bandits’ leader called through a telephone and demanded N16 million ransom before the victims would be set free.

He said the families of the victims were negotiating with the bandits to reduce the ransom and the two injured victims were receiving treatment at a hospital in Jere.

The secretary of Jere Emirate Council, Malami Zubairu Aliyu, confirmed the kidnapping of six herders through a telephone conversation with our reporter.

“And as I speak, the victims are still being held captive as their abductors are demanding N16 million ransom before they will release them,” he said.
