Poultry Farm in Plateau Suffers Severe Loss as Windstorm Claims 3,600 Birds

Must Try

Mr. Dauda Mafala, the Managing Director of Dauda Mafala and Sons Poultry Farm has expressed grief over the death of close to 3,600 birds in his farm as a result of a destructive windstorm.

The poultry farm located in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, is known for its capacity to accommodate up to 60,000 birds.

Mr. Dauda while expressing his distress to journalists on Saturday, revealed that the windstorm, which struck at approximately 3:30 pm, caused extensive damage to various structures on the farm.

“Notably, a chicken shade housing around 10,800 laying birds was entirely destroyed” he lamented.

Adding that the damage was not limited to the birds alone, as an advanced automated chicken cage worth $80,000, imported in 2013, was completely devastated.

“This state-of-the-art facility featured integral systems for egg packing, feeding, and manure recovery” Daud revealed.

Mafala further explained that aside from the automated cage, the total damage recorded from the calamity was over N250 million.

Reacting to the incident, Nanji Gambo, the Spokesperson for the Plateau State Chapter of the Poultry Association of Nigeria, described the event as “unfortunate” and a considerable setback for the industry in the state.

Gambo urgently appealed to the State Government to extend support to the affected farm and emphasized the critical role of the poultry sector as a significant source of employment in the region.
